DISABLING OR HIDDING DRIVES

Have you ever encountered such problem where you would like to hide some secret material or some really confidential material from your friends , family or Lab. assistant. Most of us either use “make hidden” attribute of Windows XP,but its a old trick and everyone knows how to see hidden files and folders.The other trick is to use some ”folder lockers”, which ask for password to open them.But thats no hiding,it is just password protecting them.What if your family forces you to open it,or if you have forgotten the password,there is no other way except formatting.

1)Click on “Start” button.

2)click on “Run” button,a window will open…

3)Type in it “regedit”(without inverted commos).

4)Browse to My computer \HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Policies \Explorer.

5)Now in the right pane create a new ‘DWORD’(using right click button of mouse) item and name it “NoDrives”(without using inverted commos).

6)Now modify it’s value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal) Now press F5 to refresh. When you click on My Computer, no drives will be shown.

If in case still drives are looking then simply restart your computer and then click on My Computer icon on desktop, no drives will be shown.

7)To enable display of drives in My Computer, simply delete this DWORD item.
